Walking in the Teifi Valley
The Teifi Valley, which meets the sea at Cardigan, has
a rich and varied history, from the coracle fishing practised since prehistoric
times and celebrated in the Coracle Museum at Cenarth, to the mediaeval
castles of Cilgerran, and Newcastle Emlyn, to the Victorian woollen mills
of Drefach Felindre, home of the Welsh Wool Museum. There are miles of
easy walking along the banks of the Teifi, as well as through the steeply
wooded valleys of tributaries like the Ceri and the Cych, where a magical
waterfall hides the entrance to the underworld of the Mabinogion.
For the naturalist, the Wildlife Centre at Cardigan offers
a chance to see otters, kingfishers, dippers and a host of waders and
warblers. Buzzards are everywhere and Red Kites are moving in from Mid-Wales.
The falls at Cenarth, where you can watch the salmon leaping, and the
steeply wooded Gorge around Cilgerran are celebrated beauty spots within
a stones throw of our base at Parc-y-gors.
